Screw Type Terminal Block for GPIO...

Wed Mar 26, 2014 4:13 pm

I want to be able to snap a screw type terminal block onto the 2x13 GPIO connector so I can easily attach wires instead of using female prototyping wires. The case that I am enclosing everything into isn't big enough for a breadboard so the terminal blocks would be best for me. Here is an example of what I am looking for but it only has 12 pins...

That terminal also has male pins on the bottom... Do you know of any with female connectors on the bottom so I don't have to use a female to female connector before the terminal?

Another option I was looking at is the adafruit prototyping board...

But I was hoping to avoid soldering it together.

Thanks for the help,
Zac

I've never seen screw terminals with female ends as they are designed for soldering onto PCB, the weight and stress on 0.1" header wouldn't be too wise.
The cheapest and easiest way would be to solder it yourself using some 0.1" headers, strip or proto board and screw terminal blocks, of course you still have the issue with weight and stress on the GPIO.
This is pretty similar however size wise your not going to be saving much room if any over standard jump leads.
Or a standard GPIO to 26pin ribbon with a breakout.

Thanks for the reply. I did see that product as I was searching and it would take up too much space. I think going with the adafruit protoboard will be my best option. I did however find a couple places that seem to have the same thing, but already soldered and for less money...

I don't think either of those companies have stock in the US so international shipping will take a while. Last time I ordered from DX it took a month to receive my relay board :(

Something like this perhaps? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Man that is expensive to get shipped to the US. It ended up being over $75 for two boards and international shipping. Not exactly worth it to me!

Anyone in the USA have something similar?

Alex has said he's going to have a US distributor selling the Rasp.io boards soon.

Indeed. Cyntech has a US branch, but no stock yet. We only launched this last week. You can't go global instantly (in a new product range when you don't know how much demand there is) with something like this.
MCM has also expressed an interest, so we'll see what develops out of that.
