Copying 4GB card to 16GB card

Tue Mar 04, 2014 2:39 pm

Going to copy 4GB Card with Raspbmc on it to a 16GB one using Win32DiscImager - Copying it won't be a problem but when I reboot the Pi with the new card will it automatically resize the partition to use the full 16GB or will I have to do it manually?

Looking at the card with gparted its an f2fs filesystem which my copy of gparted (Arch Linux) won't do anything with... Anyone got any tips to get it to the full size of the card?

It shouldn't do it automatically because that might not be what you want (that is to say, it WON'T do it automatically).

I did the same thing, more or less, with a NOOBS card - copied to a 32GB card, then used Gparted to change partitioning.

You may be able to use "rasp-something-config" to do that resizing (the NOOBS card couldnt be changed using that command). I see that someone just replied with the same suggestion.

As it's f2fs, your only option is to copy all the data off, repartition it with the new size, then copy it back. There are (unless this has changed recently) no tools to resize f2fs partitions.

You should be able to mount it with any recent Linux distribution, but (again, unless this has changed whilst I wasn't looking) you have to mount the partition manually - it won't auto-mount.

Can't you just save all of your XBMC settings out with 'XBMC Backup' onto a USB memory device (memory stick/HDD) then install Raspbmc afresh on the 16GB card and restore your backup?
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

After doing a bit of research on the problem and reading up on it I'm beginning to think that this is the only way I'm going to get it - Copying userdata folder off the old install using Samba...

Thanks for the info everyone! :D
