RS or Newark

Wed May 30, 2012 10:55 pm

I have a preorder with Newark for a RasPi(placed April 20) and I am getting an RS order code from a friend to order from RS. Do you think I should stick with my Newark order, or cancel and order from RS. Btw I'm I'm the USA.

Order from RS. They ship faster and have a better support team.

Isn't the lead time 6 weeks for RS? Do you think it would be faster than Newark?

The lead time is up to 6 weeks, but speaking to friends who ordered from newark on the first day, who still have not recieved theirs, I think rs would be quicker. Also, if you have the auth code, it is faster. I sent them an email asking them to try and speed up mine, and I got a dispatch notice within two days.

Though, you will have to wait anyway, as there are just so few raspberry pis around.

But really, will it take 6 weeks from RS or is that just to be safe, if the latter, how many weeks will it really come in?

Just be forewarned that if you are in the USA, you will be paying much more for your Raspberry Pi if it comes from England than from Newark in the USA. There will be VAT and extra shipping for the shipper, I think it is DHL they use. Search the forums for posts by people distressed about the extra charges tacked on when shipping by RS to foreign countries.

I registered/signed up with Allied Electronics, just recently......surprisingly I immediately received the
name and local phone and fax number of an account manager.
On my attempt to buy a Pi, they said they had none in stock, and had me leave my name and e-mail address so that I would be notified as soon as "MY PI", (OK, my italics), is in stock.
Looking good so far.

Art. :D :D
