Most Stable SD Cards for Raspberry PI?

Sun Feb 23, 2014 12:03 am

I use about a dozen Raspberry PIs around my lab for various purposes for over a year now - mostly recording data or monitoring equipment. All of them are running the Raspbian OS.

Some of them have lasted the entire year without any problems. Yet, for others I've had to replace the SD card a few times. They essentially get into state where just typing a simple command, say "ls", returns bizarre or odd error messages.

Could it be because of some poor-quality SD cards? Have any of you had more luck with some types of SD cards vs other kinds?

I have been using a few Rpi's for over a year and they always get shut down just by removing the power. I have had zero failures once I went with Toshiba Exceria red label sd cards.

If you bought the ones being flogged with NOOBS pre-installed from the Pi Swag store, then you've got a legitimate whinge against the foundation. ;)

No experience of them but I reckon they have to be a reasonable bet. I haven't had any problems with Sandisk Class 4 myself.

Would be nice if there is a list of all the SD cards that wont corrupt by simply pull power.

if there is a write going to the card then there is always the possibility that it may corrupt the card.
some may be better than others
YMMV

if you have a situation where power could be cut frequently then a mini UPS option may be worth it
