Epiphany-browser kiosk mode and proxy

Wed Jan 29, 2014 10:31 am

Is there a way to get the new "Web" browser (what a dumb name....) to run in kiosk mode?

Also is there a way to specify a pac file url for it to use too?

Currently we are using chromium as our kiosk browser but would love a html5 browser so we can play video.

To play video (HTML5 or direct file links or streams) INSIDE the browser windows, we need a much newer libwebkit(gtk) library AND gstreamer-1.0 with omx support AND to compile the webkit libraries to use gstreamer-1-0. Afterwards any webkit based browser (Midori, Minimal Kiosk Browser, ... ) may be able to play video inside the browser window, not only "web" (which at the moment is only good for breaking your Debian Wheezy installation).

A clean solution will only be possible on Jessie, because it already contains the newer packages needed, and how to add support for gstreamer-1.0 omx to it is being discussed right now.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer
