Re: New video demo on the homepage

Head to the home page for a video of a video demo (how meta) - this time filmed not by us but by Andy Piper, one of the Transfer Summit attendees. A couple of other notes too, about the current mailing list problems, and about Eben's Slashdot Q&A.

Really, really nice news, it's a pleasure to see the Rpi running. The HD video is played by mplayer?

It's an internally developed vid player called Playerx.

Could we get some more info on the video? What container was being used and maybe which audio codecs are/will be supported?

Was the video demo with Playerx running directly from the console or was it running under X11? Does the GPU have enough processing power to handle interlaced video too, like 1080i?
Will Playerx be released together with the Raspberry Pi?

It's running directly from the console. We'll be bundling a media player - hopefully PlayerX.

The GPU does have enough processing power for 1080i, but we don't support motion adaptive de-interlace.

I'm pretty sure interlaced looks worse, and is easier for the gpu than progressive... :P
