SteamOS Streaming and Raspberry Pi

Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:39 am

Hello folks,

is it (theoretical) possible to use Raspberry PI as Client for the new coming SteamOS "streaming" function? The idea is, to install SteamOS as secondary OS on my desktop-computer und to use Raspberry PI in my living room for streaming. So I can play PC-Games in my living room for round about 40 EUR... :o

Maybe, SteamOS is open source, but the actual Steam part is proprietary. I am going to see if it is possible, but it could be x86 only.

I doubt that it will be because of problems with pay codecs. Also, do not wait for porting Playstation NOW from Sony (CES2014). this is my opinion ..

I think the Pi would be perfect for this task. Surely sending controller commands and receiving streaming video is well within it's capabilities? This way you could have a single steam machine and multiple Pi 'clients' attached to each TV in the house. I really hope this can be done.

It's entirely possible, maybe you could start a petition for this, and send it to valve ;)

The beta for streaming just started so I'm sure it will be no time before someone figures out how to hoax it on a R Pi like people did with Nvidia's streaming tec.

If all else fails, there are plenty of vnc clients available for the pi (if you get where this idea is going)
