The Pi supports SDHC memory cards so yes 8GB will work although you should check the compatibility list just to be sure - http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

FWIW the five different brands of 8Gb cards I've used (along with other sizes etc.) are shown here: http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... cards.html
(and they're logged in the eLinux wiki).

One of my RasPi model B rev 2 512 is running Raspbian from NOOBS on SanDisk 8gb class 4 micro-SD with SD adapter. Running remote, 24/7 headless, wifi, used solely for Dump1090. All maintenance done via vnc and ssh. Runs like a dream. :D

I wouldn't take that page particularly usefully, in the cases where people have not found it to work they are mostly having trouble because of known bugs in the software (-110 timeout errors)

So far we've not found an SD card that doesn't work with the Raspberry Pi, or if there were problems someone sent me an SD card and I fixed the bug!
