It will display the camera output.

I'm not sure if this should be asked here or on The Raspberry Pi Model B+ Q&A thread, or the Schematics for B+ thread.
I notice the "old" Bv1, Bv2 and A have no connection to the I2C bus on the dsi connector

but the B+ has, on pins 11 & 12

Will this make a difference to what can be done with it on the B versus B+?

One can guess that this could be for a touch screen feature? Maybe? Just guessing...

That would mean that feature would ONLY work on B+ RPis.

Can almost touch it ...

Looks like some things are being added to the firmware that may be related to the official display.

Code: Select all

firmware: config: config: Add display_default_lcd option

No pointing constantly asking about it. You'll get no pre-warning, it'll just be announced. Just like the B+

If you are a betting person, you have a choice between Official Pi screen, or HDMIPi: which will arrive first?

You have no idea the pain encountered before the B+ launch due to leaks and major IT web cockups (none by the Foundation who know how to keep a secret). Quite a few heads should roll in my opinion.
Why? ... What was the big secret? I really can't see the point in keeping it a secret.

The display will be ready when its ready, but for not pre-announcing the B+ I have only two words "osborne effect".

Officially we're still working on the display, it's been a long road because a couple of other things got in the way (B+ being one of them) and the engineering team isn't big enough to work on everything!

If you plug in the display and HDMI you'll be able to choose between defaulting to either HDMI or LCD and then we'll be adding various options to other applications which will allow you to do things with the other screen (i.e. play a video to HDMI)

This means you get to play two videos simultaneously to both screens! Why is there an option between HDMI and LCD? Buy both!

Yes, good article especially this bit
Pre-announcement is done for several reasons: to reassure current customers that there is improvement or lower cost coming, to increase the interest of the media and investors in the company's future prospects, and to intimidate or confuse competitors. When done correctly.....
It takes less energy to 'do it correctly' than it does to try and hide that you are doing it at all!

It strikes me that something like the B+ release isn't quite as simple as "We're going for next Friday, and we'll tell everyone now".
There's the initial alpha version, there's the "OMG we missed this" second version, the CE process, the revision to get it through that, then the first 100 out for trial, with the tweaks to the software, and the setting up of the supply chain from BOM to shop shelf, then filling the pipe line.
Somewhere in there something will go wrong, right up to the last minute.

It seems like a good idea to get all the ducks in a row before starting the massacre

Yeah, note there has even been a complete redesign of the B (revision 2.1) PCB, just so that some components of the B could also be used for the B+, a notable example being that revision 2.1 of the B PCB has ethernet magnetics connectors that includes holes for the two LED's, simply so that connectors could be bought to fill the "pipeline" that could be fitted on the 2.1 board as well as the B+ board!

As for the thought that the Osborne effect can be "managed", IMHO it cannot, even rumors can halt sales, and thats simply not acceptable with marges as thin as they are with PI's. Its just wishful thinking of someone that wanted a pre-anouncement.

You guys will probably find out before or at the same time we do... when a supplier leaks it.
