X11 and GPU

Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:47 am

After some research I get the impression that X11 does not make full use of the GPU. That is to say the CPU is still doing most of the work. Is there a better OS than Weezy that does make maximum use of the GPU thereby taking some load off the CPU?

Thanks

Though it appears that X is off the radar and Wayland / Weston is being developed, in fact there have been several posts on this forum over the last 6 months:

Which is great except Wayland/Weston will do nothing for accelerating your X11 app when it is up and running, it only accelerates the opening, closing, resizing and moving of windows. Your apps will still be rendering themselves as slowly as before.
