Sun Oct 13, 2013 6:27 pm

I want to power my Raspberry Pi and connect a HDD but I saw that I need some external power for my HDD...
if I connect my HDD to the same power than the raspberry pi . is it OK ?

If you're powering the drive through a powered external USB hub, yes, but you're also at risk of the maximum load the hub will allow. (exaggerated example ratings, but if the drive draws 2-Amps, add the 1-amp for the Pi, and the hub only allows no more than 2-amp for ALL sockets, it will blow the fuses in the hub after a few seconds of running.) But, I've run an external Seagate drive off my Targus hub, with no problems. with a 3.5-amp wall-wart feeding the hub and the Pi in parallel.
