Hi Guys,

I got a RPi and load of accessories for my Birthday this year, so far I’ve just been getting my head around Raspian and how that works, been a long time since I got down and dirty with an OS.. Anyway fairly happy with that now I can find my way about well enough....

However I did say I had accessories, as well as the Pi I also got.........

1 x Gertboard V2
1 x RaspiComm (
1 x1 CooCox Embedded Pi (
1 x Camera Module

What I’m really after is ideas on the types of projects I could achieve with all these goodies, if I’m honest I’ve been a bit overwhelmed and don’t really know where to start.

The electronics side of things I’m not too intimidated by I have a reasonable understanding there, and have access to “Dr” grade support at work, my weakness is going to be in the coding side of things, NO experience of C and very little in Python, I’m quite happy taking code apart and tinkering but have never written anything from scratch.... I would put myself in the novice to intermediate category I suppose....

Things that have taken my interest have been eye candy like LED cubes and sensory projects like maybe a weather station... Quite interested in retro gaming as well, I have a working Competition Pro digital joystick (From my Spectrum & Amiga days) (9 pin D Connector) and was thinking about an interface for that to be used with the one of the gaming distros (Mame NES SNES and so on)...

So far the Gertboard seems the most useful for interfacing simple electronics, I’ve powered up LED’s and a motor using that, brought a breadboard and bits for that..

The RaspiComm mentions joysticks but I doubt it would be as simple as plumbing in a D sub connector....

The Embedded Pi, looks interesting with regards to Arduino™ shields but I think I would be getting WAY out of my depth at this stage.......

So any ideas on learning curve projects that would make good use of the above ?

Many thanks in advance (Long post I know....)

I'd suggest getting a couple of "raspberry pi projects" type books, and working your way through those - it'll be a valuable learning experience and you'll get a better feel for what's possible and what you're capable of :)

Many to choose from... ... 20projects
