SD-card Crashes on File Write

Tue Oct 01, 2013 3:44 am

This already be a topic but I am a newbie. My system was up and running for weeks. I was in the process of editing a file thru the python editor and when I saved the file the screen went to just the raspberry, and never came back. I pulled the power and plugged it back in and nothing, just the red power light. Moved SDRAM to PC and needed reformatting 8GB card showed as 1.1.GB, tried formatter and it gave same results. Any help would be appreciated.

If the SD Association Formatter only formats your 8GB card to 1.1GB you might have a fake SD card?

And just for the sake of clarity, ther's a big difference between SDRAM and an SD card ;) You may want to edit your post title.

Your SD-Card has multiple partitions Windows can only see and format the first partition which won't be the full 8GB capacity.
If you wish to recover any files from the Linux partition then try Diskinternals Linux Reader - http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/

downloaded reader and will not install, ask them for help
Here is what I was doing when the happened, BTW pi has been working great for over two weeks
Opened python file using Idle and then ran it to ensure it still worked, ran fine, added a couple of lines to the code and used the File command to save the file instead of rerunning the program with the new lines, that's when it went to the Raspberry only screen and froze. Powered off then on and now all I get is the Power LED, no OK

Or you could try booting up a Linux Live CD (or Live USB) on your PC and use that to see if you can get the files off your SD card (i.e. if the card hasn't totally corrupted)
