Accessing Raspberry Web server with a ".local" address?

Sat Sep 21, 2013 12:13 pm

On my Raspberry PI, I installed avahi and nginx. Avahi was setup as suggested here: http://www.howtogeek.com/167190/how-and ... pberry-pi/

Things are working great from my Linux and OS X machines: I can open a webbrowser and get to my PI's default index.html page at "dana.local". Perfect.

However, from my Windows 7 machines, when I go to "dana.local" or "http://dana.local" instead I'm redirected to some website probably due to my ISP: http://www.dnsrsearch.com/index.php?ori ... .local/&r=.

I've already installed iTunes on my Windows machine in an attempt to get "Bonjour" to detect my PI. And oddly enough, from a windows command prompt, pings are returned from the .local address:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Bob>ping dana.local

Pinging dana.local [fe80::250:b6ff:fe5b:be80%13] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from xx80::250:b6xx:fe5b:be80%13: time=2ms
Reply from xx80::250:b6xx:fe5b:be80%13: time=1ms
And yet, within a web browser (both IE and Firefox) I am not taken to my PI's default index.html even though this works great from Linux and OS X.

Can anyone suggest something to troubleshoot this?

You need to install the Bonjour Printer Driver for Windows. Google it and it's usually the top result.
