Eben at LinuxCon

Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:08 pm

According to this link, Eben is supposed to keynote at LinuxCon (Sept. 16-18)

He’ll share some of those valuable lessons during his keynote talk at LinuxCon and CloudOpen North America in New Orleans, Sept. 16-18, where he’s also planning a new demonstration of the Pi’s prowess.
I could not find any info on when this event takes place. Anybody know?

An update on some of the cool things we've seen people doing with the Pi in the last six months, and a preview of our forthcoming accelerated desktop environment and web browser.

Would be nice if someone could post some slides, video, or transcript of the talk.

Eben will share some of the neat stuff they've seen people do with the Pi over the last six months, show a demo of their new hardware-accelerated desktop environment, and talk about what we've got coming up next—including their night-vision camera module, Pinoir.

Upton has been working hard with partners, including Collabora, to implement Wayland support on the Raspberry Pi, and said Monday that he anticipates releasing a preview of RPi with Wayland support, with bug tracking on it, in the next few weeks. He aims to have the boards shipping with Wayland support by the end of the year.

Does Wayland require new hardware or is is simply an OS upgrade which will work on current Pis?

It's basically a more efficient way of accessing the graphics hardware in every Pi (slight oversimplification). More info here.
