Re: Come and play with an alpha board - UK conference

Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:20 pm

We've been invited to do a public demo of the alpha board at the Transfer Summit at Keble College, Oxford on Sept 7-8. I've just put a post up about it on the front page.

I've just seen the conference rates for the first time, and they're a bit wince-inducing, so I'm not sure how many of you will be able to make it (especially given that the conference is mid-week). But if you can come, we'd love to see you, and to let you get your sweaty hands on a real, live Raspberry Pi. We do have more conference appearances, not just in the UK, in the pipeline, which I'll let you know about as soon as I can (i.e. when speaker lists are confirmed).

Let me confirm we'll be there both days - Eben's got the diary, and he's currently somewhere over the Atlantic. I can let you know in the morning.

Depends on how long you go for, whether you stay over, what meals you take and so on. See the Transfer Summit website for details.

WOW that is expensive. You would need to steal alot of miniature sewing kits and towels to make that up or drink a hell of alot of tea and coffee. It doesn't tell you what the difference between the academic and general registration types are.

I'm guessing (guessing, mind) that you have to be attached to an academic institution in some capacity for the former. And yes, I did a real double-take when I saw the price. I assume the model is that people's employers pay!

do you think 5 miles of bungie cord superglued to the local university's main entrance counts as being attached?

I hope Debconf 12 is one of the ones you are considering. It is in Nicaragua probably early July. I'll be sure to get you the info when registration opens. Videos from Debconf 11 (Bosnia) are availalbe including the ARM bof.

Don't feel like the lone stranger there, sightlight... In the same boat (and rough geographic location)...as you. :D

I'm patient...I'll just do as much as I can without the R-Pi in hand. ;)
