Need a case and HDMI cable

Tue Aug 13, 2013 3:02 pm

Hello all,

I've been enjoying my Pi for many months now, used as a media centre running XBMC. I've now got it to a more-or-less stable state and want to mount it on the back of my TV (the VESA mount is already is use). I currently have the standard plastic Pi case (which is not the best tbh, imo)

Can anyone recommend a method of mounting the Pi, or a case designed for that purpose?

Other issue is the HDMI cable. The one I have is a fairly robust thing and being heavier weight than the Pi itself means I have to be careful how I put things together. It could easily flick the Pi across the room when I move the TV!! ;) So, is a lighter, more flexible cable available? I've not seen one personally but I thought it worth asking. The ideal cable would be very short, maybe 15 or 20cm.

you can probably use ^ that and mount it though the wall mount at the same time.

The shortest HDMI lead I can find is 0.5m (20").

I'm not sure what you mean by "mount it th(r)ough". Looking at the mounting arm I have, I don't think I could use it and that Pi case on the same VESA mount.

Same here. And pretty much all the same thickness. I was hoping for something shorter and more flexible. I'm now wondering if I can build my own??

Cable-wise, would Pimoroni's fine "Noodles" be suitable?

They're flat HDMI (and Micro USB) cables. My experience with these sorts of things from elsewhere is that they're lighter and a bit more flexible than regular cables

EDIT: Bah, I just looked, and they're a bit longer than you're looking for. Sorry!

Thanks LF. I emailed Pimoroni and they might be able to source a 30cm version. Fingers crossed!

I wonder if you could use a plate of some sheet material between the vesa mounting holes on the TV and the bracket that supports the TV. Then attach your case to that sheet material.

That's a possibility plugwash. I'll give that some thought.

You could put a P-clip on the sheet as strain-relief for the HDMI cable.
