Should we make a wiki page for overscan settings?

Would it make sence to build up a wiki page were we collect the overscan setting for our TVs? If someone new finds his TV on the wiki he hasn't to invent the weel again, just edit the config.txt and thats it.

What do you think?

I don't think I understand these issues with overscan. Surely if overscan is set to off on the RPi graphics output, then people just need to make sure that their TV is set to "Just scan" (That is was samsung call it anyway) to make sure it isn't trying to zoom in and mess things up. I have had an issue like that in the past with many different TVs and graphics cards (in both windows and linux), since most AMD/ATi cards decide to underscan by 5% by default.

Have I missed the point of what is going on here? I will confirm no issue when I can eventually get a hold of a Pi myself but that might be some time.

Many TV's don't have such an option.

Personally I'd suggest that people go conservative, and then count the "extra pixels they can use.

Or we could produce a graphic which has overscan counts on each side...

I am all for this.

The table would either contain overscan settings OR a method to disable overscanning. (Many times the method of doing this is not very user friendly)

Hello,

I'm getting paranoid with Samsung 32" model LE32R71. The cli commands tell me that the optimal configuration is:


sdtv_mode=2 # Normal PAL
sdtv_aspect=3 # Sets to 16:9
hdmi_group=1 # (CEA)
hdmi_mode=4 # Found through editparser
hdmi_drive=2 # But no sound, although it's supported

The mode (4) is 1280x720p which is the optimized for this screen. I can listen no sound although omxplayer clearly states that "there is sound".

But my problem is the the picture when I play video doesn't "fit the screen" it's a larger. Overscan options doesnt seem to work!
