Sweet! I'm actually kind of relieved to see the gui is more responsive than I expected. (Though I am probably going to run it headless) I'm curious to see how much of performance improvement we will get if/when the proper X drivers are made.

Nice vid, thanks for the pointer.

As already commented on, the Pi does seem worryingly slow. I can imagine a LOT of kids damning it seeing as they are used to faster PCs.

Let's hope that some software tweaking will speeds things up a lot.

I have a request for Liam. Puhleeaase take a video crash course. The first half of the vid left me dizzy. Some pointers:

- Make sure you have some decent lighting on the subject (and don't put your head in front of the light )

- Hold the camera very steady, best is to use a tripod. Move (pan) the camera very slowly.

- Make sure the subject is in focus

It's not that I'm not grateful for the effort but by just observing some basics the video will become actually watchable.

I think this is one of the first videos where anyone actually scrolls a browser window. The performance of X in software-only mode as is shown here is actually quite impressive and way better than what I had expected based on the previous posts from the foundation.

Really looking forward to seeing what happens with hardware acceleration extensions in the future for X11 and the OpenGL ES GPU on this board. It could end up being awesome (more than it already is, of course)!

Chill out man! This was a quick flick - if you don't like it don't watch it. This is not a forum for video tips, it's a forum for Raspi stuff.

Thanks, a nice overview :)

The Pi doesn't seem much slower in general use than my 1st gen netbook, even without the X11 gpu accelerated.

Sure pal, although I don't know that I'll get dizzy until I watch it

I said I was grateful for the effort. But if someone publishes 'video tutorials' about any subject a basic skill set regarding video can be expected, don't you think? Hence the tips, I tried to help him!

Now you chill out and don't make it bigger than it is.

Thanks Liam!  :)

As for speed, we still don't have accelerated graphics, so I wouldn't expect it's running at it's best.

But I wouldn't describe it as slow!.. go back about 5 years.

I'm happy with the speed

I would have said graphic applications like Doom are accelerated using the GPU. X is the big piece not using the GPU - but then it is not clear how much X will benefit anyway.

Get in there and write your graphic games and applications using OpenGL - they will be accelerated. Now if we can just get hardware floating point support...

It seems to be smoother than my 900 celeron running puppy so I do not get the speed comments, maybe some are expecting to much out of a $35 Computer.

It looks fast enough for the plans I have for it.

Also Thanks Liam.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.
