security camera

Wed Jun 19, 2013 9:01 pm

I have just received my Raspberry and I am wondering if it would be a possible project to use my raspberry to record onto a hard drive any activity on my outdoor security camera. At the moment the camera when activated by movement overrides whatever is on the TV, What I would like is to record to HD whenever there is movement picked up by the camera.
Any help would be appreciated

Look at luvcview, googleIit and read up on it. Maybe you can use it to collect images.

"motion" does that.
Check the forums , there are still cameras left which we can't
get to work.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

I'll put in a plug for motion. I have a webcam lying around and just for giggles I plugged it into my Pi and then did a little Googling. In about 2 min I had found and installed the 'motion' software and in about another 2 min it was working.

It's a very cool solution.
