Size of the package the pi arrives in?

Anyone know the size of the delivery package the Pi is coming in? Will it fit through a normal letter box?

I have the Pi coming next week like a few others here(happy days) and I sent it to my home address instead of work for some reason :0/

If it is coming by courier it will almost certainly have to be signed for.

Well we know that the Raspberry Pi itself will come wrapped in an anti-static bag.

Looking at the packaging area at the end of the video ITN posted recently, and assuming what we're seeing there is a bunch of Raspberry Pi computers being boxed up for shipping, then it seems like they may come in juice carton sized boxes.

Considering the size, and comparing it to other stuff Farnell sends off, it will probably fit in their traditional bubble envelope, or in a very small cardboard box (something like 10x15x5cm). But yes, you probably have to sign for it.

Normally stuff from farnell seems to come in either jiffy envelopes or cardboard boxes, usually smaller orders come in the former but i've received plenty of cardboard boxes with lots of empty space inside over the years.

Having said that given the volume of Pi orders I would not be at all surprised if they have made special arrangements for packaging them for shipping.

At least in the UK they seem to use a mixture of UPS and first class post, the former has to be signed for the latter doesn't. If you get a tracking number it means they decided to use UPS.

It's seems from the other thread and from my own experience that they are using UPS for the first batch at least.

For what it's worth, mine came by UPS from Farnell, in a box that was 205mm x 145mm x 100mm.  But that doesn't necessarily mean they will all be like that as mine was a couple of weeks ago and they might have changed things since then.

Just looked at UPS tracking info Change Address button and says the following

Looks like you can only change it through Farnell if they would even do it but I doubt it prior to the first delivery attempt, makes sense incase someone got your Tracking No.

Got the same problem here, mine is coming Monday so have got to ring my boss Monday morning and beg for a day off as you should book holidays a couple of days in advance.

Can't complain though, I am sure it is a problem many would love to have

The weight of the package is 2.6KG according to my Tracking Information.

So i suspect Farnell have thrown in a free catalog which is taking up all that weight.

So i doubt it will fit through a normal letterbox if that's the case.

That might be just a class like parcel up to 2.6kg for that type of delivery, We used to deal with couriers that had pricing in classes up to 2kg then 10kg etc etc. The post office has the same but on a smaller scale and depending on dimensions.

It may be the class indeed.

Looking at another UPS order I made recently, the weight specified is 0.5KG,

but the items in the package were 200g + 581g inside the box itself.

This was a Logitech K400 keyboard that came free with an M305 mouse, which I tend to use on the couch for the Pi.

So it appears that the weight specified is nothing to go by.
