Programmable By usb

Is there a way to make raspberry pi programmable by USB using computer or using card reader to directly put a program on memory card which can be run on pi

No.

That is, if I understand what you want to do correctly.
It seems you want to plug the Pi as a device into a host computer.

Hosts will only talk to devices, and vice versa.
The model B has a chip which acts as a hub, and the sockets on it can only talk to devices. Thus the B can only be a host.

The model A doesn't have that chip - the SoC is directly connected to the socket.
So in theory it can be made to be a device. All that is required is the correct firmware for the GPU. However that is most probably so far down the to-do list that you'd need the next-gen space telescope to see it.

If you simply want to write say a python program and put it on a USB memory stick then it should be possible to instruct the Raspberry Pi to check for that being inserted and run any programs placed on there.

But as said above it can't be used as a USB device directly.
The closest you'd get is using a direct network cable link and using X-11 forwarding you'd have access to do most things. Other than the link being Network rather than USB, it would be close.

Hi vnarwal95, you can do this using Ethernet though, something like this maybe?

AFAIK device mode on model A is just a problem of nobody
proving that it works (or not) , not missing GPU firmware
features.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Could this question be solved by using the serial port via USB-to-serial-connector?

Ah forgot about serial terminal cable, good point!
