microSD card holder request or bust!

Tue May 21, 2013 4:27 pm

maybe it's just me, but wouldn't a flush RPi look and function better?

the current SD card holder is easily bust.
first I bust one side, so the acrylic glue is too hard to bust that side,
and the other side bust...

ie on opening case, having forgotten to remove SD card.

£9.48 for a microSD card holder is one current solution,
but all in all, would prefer native microSD holder.

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't a flush card holder make it more difficult to get the card out? On the Pi as it is, I just pull, whereas on my laptop even with its push-to-eject I find it a pain scrabbling with my finger-nails

Precisely
Though from the pictures it's not clear whether it still projects far enough to foul a case edge - probably depends on the case

peepo,

I have had the same problem. I purchased a micro SD adapter.

Yes: the micro SD cards are a little fiddly to remove, slightly easier to replace as the adapter has a spring action so you know when it is seated.

Yes, the micro SD card does then foul the bottom of the case. A small file, knife, or dremel :) removes enough of the case to solve the problem.

I had to replace my SD card holder (techpaul posted this for replacement SD card holders here http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... nt#p215494 : thanks techpaul :D )

I too have a few for emergency use!

Of course a downside (yes there always seems to be one somewhere) is that on a full size SD card you can label the underside of the card (exposed part) and see which card is in the pi. With the micro SD cards that is lost. I am using adapters in my "live systems" and full size in my development system for ease of determining which operating system is in use.

Also...it's a lot harder to drop, and lose, a full size SD card.

Depends on the environment. I went on a driving holiday recently, the spring eject on my laptop launched an SD card into the bowels of the dashboard when I shoved it into the glove-box. Never to be seen again. :(

Yes I have determined that the recoil on my Canon DSLR SD card could launch a space shuttle into orbit :!: I took note in case I should have a dashboard or other likely hiding place within range.

I think the sd card slot was chosen over micro slot as the cost of the licence to use a micro sd card slot would have put the price of the RPI up.
