I'm looking for a mic that will pick up speech at an adequate volume for voice recognition at around a 1.5m distance.
I currently have a PS eye which after a little fiddling I got to work, however despite having a directional 4 mic array you really have to shout at it. Now the PS eye (potentially related to the array of mics) won't load in alsamixer and you get an 'invalid argument' error before it crashes out, so potentially the levels just aren't set correctly but I can't seem to work round it (and googling indicates no one else has).
Has anyone had any success with this sort of distance with a microphone on the pi? I don't mind if its USB soundcard + mic, or webcam etc. but would prefer to keep it < £40 total and ideally nothing too bulky. However if anyone has had great results with something that doesn't fit those criteria then still please let me know!
