I bought the same one and the range/reception was terrible; maybe I had a bad one. I switched to a TP-Link TL-WN722N and the range is absolutely incredible. It is so good that I bought a second one. It has a removable antenna which allows you to add an even higher gain antenna, or reposition the antenna for better reception. It also supports packet injection. Works out of the box with the Model B Rev 2
board and the latest version of Raspbian. The Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW model also has a long running reputation as a device with fantastic reception and supports packet injection, although it is only a b/g device; their newer products have questionable reviews, so that is why I chose the TP-Link. The TL-WN722N, as with several other of these high gain devices, require one of the following with the Model B Rev 1
board (A powered hub, the usb fuses bypassed, or a Y splitter cable drawing power from both usb ports).
