Looking for 2.8" TFT display

Tue May 07, 2013 2:41 pm

Hello first post, I hope I got this in the right area. Anyway I've had my pi for over a week now and love it, thought I would setup a little project for myself and things are going ok so far, but I can't seem to find a LCD display close to the size I would like. Would anyone happen to recommend a good 2.8" or 2.6" LCD display. I hope this size isn't too odd.

Many thanks

You didn't say whether you wanted to display composite (the yellow RCA style jack on the Pi) or HDMI output, but at that size, composite may be your only option. Here's a 2.5-inch diagonal NTSC/PAL display that Adafruit sells:

http://www.adafruit.com/products/912

and it even comes complete with a tiny Pi desktop on their product page:

Oops! Yes I forgot to mention I am looking for composite. I've seen the Adafruit display and I was thinking I could settle if I couldn't find the size I want. Is there an alternative to get a display like that the website says it wont be in stock for 15-20 days.

Not sure if this is useful, but for $30 and free shipping you get a 3.5 inch composite display (only 960 x 240 pixels) in an enclosure, a 2200 maH built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery with 12 volt, 500 ma output through an auxiliary power jack (in addition to powering the display internally), a video input cable with a yellow RCA plug for the Pi's composite output jack, an audio speaker for mono audio input (e.g., from the Pi's stereo output), a 5-volt AC-powered charger/supply, and ... a Velcro forearm strap!

Hey I like that! Any chance you've taken one apart? I'm curious how wide the PCB is, I plan to put this in a game boy pi mod. If it is less than 3.4" it should fit quite nice. I also see that there is a 2.5" model I can use as well.

just in case anyone didn't know, that display's actually 320*240. Sometimes sellers artificially inflate the res. specs by counting each r,g,b element as a separate pixel...
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

If you want the higher resolution try finding a monitor that can hook-up to your GPIO. (search Google for "GPIO Raspberry PI LCD"). Personally, I'm not that satisfied with these little monitors on the yellow component output.

You can also search Amazon for the little monitors. I've used a 2.5", 3" and 3.5" on the Pi.

The 2.5" can actually be powered straight from the Pi but the 3" and up need at least 6v.

I looked at the GPIO LCDs looks like I need a frame rate buffer driver. looks like I'll have to wait for a driver to come out before I can use that for video play back. I think the small monitor will be my fall back. So has no one taken apart one of those CCTV testers?
