Doom for the Pi

Ok, so, I've seen many people offer solutions for getting Doom onto the Pi, but not one of them has worked for me yet, the closest was Freedoom but the resolution was off screen, my Pi is refusing to change its resolution (that's a different story), so I was wondering about this: I have my own copy of Ultimate Doom, the original PC copy from many many years ago. Does anyone know how I can get the installation from that CD onto my Pi and play it. I had the thought of putting both the card and CD into my computer and then install the CD to the card, but not sure if that would work (I'm not the most knowledgable in how this works, but a fast learner). So, does anyone here know what I can do? And please don't leave any steps out that are probably common knowledge, cause they likely aren't for me

Unless you create a large enough windows-readable partition on the SD card, that's unlikely to work. (Windows can't read the EXT4 partition that Raspbian is normally loaded onto.)

Another alternative would be to copy the CD to a flashdrive and "install" from there into DOSbox (I'm assuming that the game you're working with ran under DOS, and should, therefore be willing to install there as well). Or, of course, you could connect a USB CD drive to the Pi and do it all directly.

Install rpix86 from the pistore it is easily 2 to 3 times faster than DOSBox. Copy the contents of the CD to a thumbdrive and transfer it to the R Pi or install winSCP on your windows PC and transfer the files over. rpix86 on a stock Pi is equal to about a 40 Mhz 486. There is a thread on rpix86 in the "gaming" section of the forums.

I think there are also open source equivalents of the Doom engine out there and then all you would need to do after that is move the *.wad file from the doom disk over.

Ok, thanks. Just a problem with getting from the PiStore though. My pi refuses to change resolution, and the pi store goes off screen, and that refuses to get any smaller. I can't see a download thing anywhere, and I'm assuming I have to scroll sideways, however I can't, because I can't see the scroll bar

Thanks, but for some reason, one of the ones I downloaded decided to randomly work for no reason. I had prboom installed and ran that, so it worked fine, and fixed the resolution problem by launching at 580x400 in windowed mode. Won't launch in fullscreen due to some video issues or something :/
