Forum account access attempts

Wed Mar 27, 2013 10:17 pm

Just tried logging into this forum and it told me I had "exceeded the maximum number of logon attempts". I hadn't made multiple attempts so it must have been someone attempting to break into my account.

Please ensure you've got a sensible password that is a decent length and complexity.

If you can remember what your password is then it isn't good enough!

Same problem. Someone might have accidently introduced a bug into the forum software today.

I get logged out while using the board after
varying intervals , does that mean i'm compromised ?
And this is not a regular session timeout , becuase i'm
active while this happens.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

people should be aware of lastpass.com,
it gives you easy access to different usernames and secure passwords for each site

We think there are some problems somewhere - it's being looked in to. I wonder if its related to the massive DDOS attack on Spamhaus?

People on IRC and in other threads are also saying that their legitimate accounts are being banned for spamming.

Same happened to me right now, but even when logged in, I had to re-login after some clicks.
The session ID in the URL was always the same, though.
Apparently, this mechanism is not working properly anymore.

Would this thread be more suited to the "Forum glitches" section rather than "General discussion"? That is were I looked for information when this occurred to me.

Oops, I've just started another thread on this topic. I didn't see this one. I am also having this issue.
For a while there I was concerned my account may have been hacked.

It may be worth one of our admins having a look at our login ips to see if they're excessive and or unusual etc.

I came here because I logged on to find I was being asked to solve the CAPTCHA due to excessive log in attempts, too, even though I haven't been here since yesterday. My password is secure and all that, so I take it that it's nothing to worry about, then?

I got this last week, and am getting it today, too. In fact, I can't stay logged in at all - I just had to re-log-in twice in order to try to post this reply! I don't think it's a sign of a compromised account, though - I suspect it's just a bug in the forum software.

I stay logged in on my usual account. No problems there.

Just started a new account and tried to log in (latest Chrome browser), got redirected to the gaptcha. Must be a bug in the forum software.

Auto login still works on my usual account.

We know what the problem is (I think), and it's being looked in to with our service provider.
