A Lateral thought about WiFi

Thu Mar 21, 2013 6:41 am

As the local 3G mast offers 7MB/s which is a lot better than the very flaky landline Broadband, I've moved everything in the house over to WiFi apart from the RPi.

Now I stumbled into Ubuntu 12.04 and the Belkin F5D7050 dongle - 'a marriage made in heaven' ! As it works out of the box ! I can turn ethernet off and Wifi on by clicking on the symbol and visa versa.

(costs less than a GBP 5.00 in the UK on Ebay)

That was after many dongles and various Linux Distros.

I bought a Huawei E586 MiFi gismo that sadly did not have a ethernet port , just WiFi for the computers access to Internet. (did ask about ethernet version and it was not in their range)

As it is Open Source and they have cracked WiFi BIG TIME and most haven't maybe some Genius could pop it into Raspian ??????

As I'm not that knowledgeable I now have a problem of sourcing a 'WiFi' bridge' to plug into the ethernet port on the Rpi

Has anyone succeeded in this and what model Bridge did you use ?

Any thoughts very very welcome !

(I ssh into my Rpi and really really want to be able to do this over WiFi)

:D :D :D :D
