Hi all,
A little while back i saw a video which showed off the Rpi with a rotating video cube demo. It was and early video.
The demonstrator used a remote control from the TV to control the direction of the cubes rotation.
Does anyone know how this was done???

Do we actually need to use CEC? Surely a USB IR receiver with software would allow most IR remotes to do this.
However the only receivers I have found come with a remote, which in my case would mean a spare remote.

The remotes that come with non-CEC TVs tend not to have any spare buttons and IR codes which could be used by an IR receiver on the RP.
If you want only one remote then one way is to get a universal remote that will control at least two devices ie the TV and something else. However, universal remotes never seem to have all the buttons and markings that the one supplied with the TV has. .

I guess the real question is if it is supported by the TV, how is that accessed on the pi?

Well I have to honest I didn't think it was voodoo magic. What I meant was how it was accessed by say an application. Is a driver available for it?

The last time this came up there was no driver for it although the hardware is capable.

libcec is the plan.
Pulse Eight (http://libcec.pulse-eight.com/) seem keen on supporting Raspberry Pi, but it needs some work from our side to export an interface they can use.
