I have just subscribed to mailing list in the main page. I received a confirmation email, but when I  followed the link, an error page appeared. It shows this error:

ERROR # 5 (unknown user) !



Check you are using the appropriate link.

What can I do?

I'm not sure what you are trying to do. There are no user memberships of the web site itself. My confirmation was just a confirmation. The link at the bottom was to unsubscribe. What is the link? If you are attempting to log onto the Pi shop you need to sign up for that separately.

looking back to my original subscription email - there is a link to confirm your email address - I have just registered an alternative email address (in case I'm at work) and sure enough I get the same error when clicking on the required link to confirm the email address

I tried to get a mailing subscription using the "Mailing list" option in the top right cornen of the main page (http://www.raspberrypi.org/). Then I received a confirmation e-mail with this content:

I only want an email subscription as it is recommended in the FAQ's question "Where can I buy one?".

It looks like they have tightened up the procedure ......... a bit too much. I would PM Liz, who is at the bottom of the page, under Administrators.

Well, I'm experiencing several errors since yesterday. Errors in forum, FAQ, shop, etc. Maybe the web is not well programmed or it is simply a high load day. I will retry mail subscription.

The whole structure is on the verge of collapse so frequent error messages are to be expected. The plan, AFAIK, is for the site to be upgraded after the first batch of Pis is sold and they have time to sort things out. That is the plan ........
