Just for fun, I was thinking a thread of "if it was made by".  Follow this model...

"If the Raspberry Pi was made by <someone> it would cost <price> and <other details>"

I will start...

If the Raspberry Pi was made by NASA it would cost $1.4million and not be released until 2025.  The pictures of the prototypes would look staged and the camera cross hairs would be behind the SD card.   Once it was released it would still include 2012 technology.

That is indeed true but it would still be running as it exited the solar system in 2083

Indeed! I like the idea of a Plutonium based PSU as well.

As soon as I saw the title, this is what I came up with:

If the Raspberry Pi was made by Chuck Norris, it would be free and deliver round-house kicks to the face at each power-on and reboot.

Little known fact, the Raspberry Pi was actually invented when Chuck Norris round-house kicked the Foxconn plant.

Very old joke retreads:

If Raspberry Pi were made by British Leyland nothing would fit, it would start to rust weeks after leaving the showroom and it might not be delivered due to strikes at the factory.

If Raspberry Pi were made by Lancia, it would rust in the showroom

If Raspberry Pi were made by Skoda, it's have to be push-started.

Of course BL does not exist nowadays, Lancias are better made than Series 1 Betas were and Skodas are superior to VWs.....

British Leyland may be long dead, but their spirit lives on in LDV vans.

Anyway...

Carlsberg doesn't make ARM GNU/Linux boxes for $25, but if they did, they'd probably be... As unappealing as Carlsberg's lager, actually.

If the raspberry pi was made by Apple it would be $800 and you would have to pay to turn it on.

If the R-Pi were made by Apple, it would be priced at a reassuringly-expensive $250, include a plain white case with a single, proprietary, exterior dock port, and complementary accessories such as matching screens and keyboards would be available at a modest premium over high-street equivalents.  It would also refuse to boot from SD cards which were not "blessed" with an Apple-approved flag bit in their firmware, and "blessed" cards would be available at twice the price of ordinary cards but with no performance advantage.

If the R-Pi were made by Microsoft, it would be priced at $244.99 to maximise profit in competition with Apple's offering, and it would be called the "Microsoft Young Developer Starter Kit, Metro Edition".  It would run Windows 8, not Linux.  In order to fit all the feature lists, marketing endorsements and whatever on it, the case would be twice as big as the actual device inside.  It would not boot from an SD card, but from a floppy disk and an external USB hard disk, and an adapter to attach to "industry standard" VGA monitors would be included.  For power supplies, keyboards and displays, you are directed to commodity high street retailers... so not much difference there, at least.  Educational establishments would be able to buy it for a discounted price of $200, as long as they signed up for an exclusivity contract and an official support/maintenance programme, supplied through a call centre in India.

If the Raspberry Pi was made by Capcom, it would still cost $25, but they'd cancel it and then say that the cancellation was your fault for not posting on the forums.

...by North British Locomotive, it would be made to a German design based on millimetres using a British factory based on tenths of an inch, and therefore none of the parts would fit together properly.

...by Swindon Works, there would be many models of different sizes covering different needs, all built from a standard stock of parts and in tasteful shades of brass, copper and green.  They would however require a particularly high grade of power supply produced only in Wales.

...by English Electric, it would be made using decade-old technology and thus weigh a ton, but it would be so robust and reliable that it would remain in front-line service for the next 50 years.  Alternatively, it would be the fastest credit-card-sized computer on the planet, but the battery life would be 15 minutes maximum.

If it was made by Google, it would connect to the cloud as the worlds fastest cloud connector and sell for $45-$50 and it would be to old to use after half a year

If the Raspberry Pi was made by Kim Dotcom it would cost nothing, be financed by advertising and cease to function as soon as he is sentenced for unfair competition.

And it would be mind-bogglingly, miraculously, improbably good at Quake 3.

If Raspberry Pi was made by some company like Apple, it would be the size of a chocolate square, come in 6 pastel colors, black & white, its ether port would be redesigned to be 2mm high, everything would connect magnetically, all the GPIO would be on the bottom (a bed of tiny magnetic bumps), & side bumps can be used to create a cluster. The top would be a drool-proof high-res display. It would come in 3 models: atto ($49.99 -- 16GB ssd+128MB ram+usb), femto ($99.99 -- 32GB ssd+256MB ram+wifi+usb) & pico ($149.99 -- 64GB + 1GB ram+ethernet+wifi+usb). And it would come frustratingly close to being perfect! And their first order would be 100 million! [This seems doable in a year or so!]

If the Raspberry Pi was made by Microsoft it would have 4 leds on the front which would light up in a pretty red ring pattern after a few hours usage.

If the R-Pi were made by Ford, it would be nicknamed Ed, have a funny grill with an odd shape, and a cover that would slide back into the trunk if you held the actuator knob juuust riiight.

If Raspberry Pi was made by Hewlett-Packard (HP), it would come out two years after the market has been saturated and it would be half-baked with 'promises of updates to fix it' and then it would be open-sourced and the models would sell for a fraction of their original price, but it would screw you over on eBay just as soon as you think you purchased a $3 computer!
