While there seem to be a lot of scattered topics on this issue (with varied results), I figured I'd create a tutorial with screenshots (hey, it passes the time - next week's a LONG way away!)

Re: Use Win32DiskImager to write Debian image to SD Card
Good job this will definitely help those who are not fluent in Linux.
This is How I did mine and my brother, Way easier than trying to get Windd to recognize my SD cards Etc.

If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.

Thanks for this. Very useful and it worked.
Only confusion was the instruction to install Win32DiskImager when all that it needed was unzipping.

Re: Use Win32DiskImager to write Debian image to SD Card
I created a quick HTML tutorial because I want people to have an easy method of creating SD cards.
Writing Images to SD Card for the Raspberry PI
http://www.mattsbits.co.uk/item-158.html
Worked ok on Windows 7 64-bit.
I'm aiming to cover basic stuff in additional tutorials and leave the more advanced topics to other people. Some of the forum threads are a little scary for people new to Linux. No school kid is going to experience a "BBC micro" moment if they have to create a VM, install Linux and work out the DD command line.

Nice work. Re the DD method, it's actually not as hard as I'd initially thought, all done on Windows using the command line. Davespice has done a nice tuturial - link at the bottom of this post:

I cannot tell you how much I thank you for this wonderful, clear direction for something that was driving me absolutely nuts! Worked like a charm.

Also tried this on Win 7 64bit:
I get this error when starting it up but it seems to work fine:
Loading Fedora Remix:
It then shows this:
I clicked Yes and then it starts:
Once done:
In windows explorer:
disk management:
Edit: just noticed that Tass has also done a tutorial with screenshots – sorry didn't notice before – very nice work
Mine is the same aswell except it shows Fedora Remix rather than Debian
The list of files you should see is:
(copied from another post hence it says G: not F:)

Re: Use Win32DiskImager to write Debian image to SD Card
Has anyone experienced problems with their laptop SD card readers? MattsBits says a stand alone reader might be necessary because certain laptop readers don't work well. Is there anyway to test this/is there a list of known laptops with bad SD card readers? I've tried flashing two 4gig cards several times (using SD Formatter 3.1 to format the cards before each try) and I have had absolutely no luck.
