With python being a snake, raspberry being a fruit, the motto being "take a byte", and the whole endeavour being about knowledge, maybe we could do, if that doesn't offend, a garden of eden pastiche ?

Small QR barcode idea

did you use the method documented on the hack-a-day link? i tried to make a raspberry pi logo/qr a while ago but never got it working right. probably because i was on one of my low reading comprehension days.

I did ;) I had some trouble getting the size of the raspberry just right, but eventually I just said "Forget it" and probably over shrunk it a little just so I could get this up here :D

Looks good.

maybe Liz et al should add the requirement that logo entries should look good/work when merged with a QR code

To be fair, I don't know how recognizable a raspberry with a pi in the middle of it would be once it gets down small enough to fit on the board or a case somewhere, I just thought it was a funny/fun idea and posted it :P

Entry sent. I can upload a much smaller version here for others to see, if there's interest.

Here is the one I submitted:

not too keen on the colours (too much like my school colours :) ) but love the general idea

Ditto... Love the logo, hate the blue tone. Give us green and we've got a winner :D

I included the PSD with my entry and left all blanding modes on the layer so color changes can easily be changed in a matter of seconds.

Is this competition still running? And if so, how come people are posting rather than emailing entries?

The contest runs through the end of September. I'm hoping people are submitting their entries as well, but we're posting them here because we like showing off our ideas, letting people give some feedback, and because it's just too darn fun ;)

@smorek

Initially I didn't like yours - but I figured out it was because the font was dated - circa 1980's. Then it occurred to me that this was perfect!!! I like your raspberry graphic too.

I could drop the line linking the 2nd R with the Y - it looks too close to Raspbercy - and maybe try the greek letter Pi instead of the letter Pi

cheers!

Hey vladhed.

Thank You for your comment. I woke up this morning looked at the logo and I agree with your remarks. Mainly - It looks like I came out with raspbercy logo instead. :) will correct that.

I don't understand the 80s look impression ;) While making the font (this 9 letter set) I wanted to achieve technical yet stylish look that would fit the product. I was thinking of circuit boards and Cadillacs :)

[Edit]
Here's the new version :)

I think it looks much better now. With the r and y separated. Thanks again!
As for the greek pi letter... I agree it has some "cool factor" to it but from design point of view it doesn't bring anything except possible confusion for people or children who wouldn't be able to read it (these kind of information is also mentioned in the contest guidelines).

Saw some mint tins the weekend, thought something like that would make a great limited edition case. Dropped one of my logo submissions on to see what it looks like....

Here's my entry:

I've left out the monochrome version.

The three circles are hardware, software and community. Or alternatively, whatever you want them to be : )

Cheers,
Barnaby
