Sorry but i have never really downloaded a new interface/O.S and am a bit confused about the fedora remix. Do yo put a SD card into your normal computer and then save the files to that??? Then do you put it into the R-Pi and will it automatically download???

Sorry again for what will be to most of you a trivial question!!!

Thanks

No problem... We all learn somehow!

Just sit tight, the info you need will be given once they release it..

In a nutshell, you'll put the card into your windows/Mac/linux machine, download the OS image onto that machine. Use a little program called DD (or for windows windd) to partition the SD card and set it up for linux, and then uncompress the downloaded OS image onto the card.

There will be good step-by-step directions coming with the OS release though....

Hope this helps!

mkopack has got it right.  Just to add - once you've got the OS on your SD card, the Pi simply runs off that - there's no dowloading onto the device or anything like that.

You'll need DD because just copying the files and dropping them onto your SD card will not cause the card to be partitioned correctly. The way the Raspberry Pi boots depends on the card - the Raspberry Pi will be looking for the first partition to tell it what to do.

Sorry, a related follow up question if I may from a(nother) Linux beginner.

Will WinDD work for the recently released Debian6 image as well?  Is it a generic utility across several Linux flavours or is it specific to the Fedora one being discussed here?

Edit: please ignore, i've just found this:

If you don't come right try Win32DiskImager - I found this worked for me where WinDD didn't.
