Looks like the Mirror did a nice paraphrase of the BBC article.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/t.....-23657377/

Is that what reporting is now, read what your competitors write then paraphrase it and post it a day later?

This is a blogpost the writer pointed me at on Twitter. It's *much* better researched than the Mirror article, and doesn't have a misleading headline, either. Someone give that man a newspaper to run!

The Mirror article made me laugh out loud though, e.g.:

Audience: "Cash-strapped gadget fans"

Designer: "David Braben"

Tech specs: "circuit boards, which contain a processor and a USB port".

Models: "The Raspberry … will have a basic version … which does not have a network connector and a Model B, costing £22, which does connect."

It connects! Hurrah! :D

What concerns me about all of the press reports is that they always quote the ex-VAT price. That is setting a level of expectation that isn't going to be met. I know it's only going be be a few pounds (£26.40 instead of £22), but you can pretty much guarantee that it's going to kick off a lot of whingeing (aka "Bah! Humbug!")

I can see the Mirror article now

Scam Pi and chips! The "£16"' PC that actually costs more than a car!

[...goes on to add £70 mouse, £100 router etc etc etc.] :)

The press are simply parroting how the Foundation state prices so you can't really blame the press.

You've got postage to add on as well, then add VAT, so $35 is likely to turn into £31, more if you buy an SD card, case and PSU with their VAT as well. I can't see an R-Pi, SD card plus case and PSU costing much less than £45 delivered ...

Model B R-Pi : £22.50 ($35)

4GB SD Card : £4

Case : £3

PSU : £3

P&P : £3.50

=======

Total : £36 + 20% VAT = £43.20

ok, while we are all impatiently waiting to get the "real thing" into our hands ...... i made a 3d model in sketchup, so you can at least play around with it virtually:

https://github.com/tlossen/raspi

please note that this model is a rough approximation — only published info (that i could find) are the dimensions of the board: 53.98 x 85.6 mm.

size, shape and position of components and connectors have been inferred from liz's photographs.

here are some screenshots:

cheers, tim

Pi Raspberry, right you're doing it.

You just got featured by the second time on that Brazilian technology website which, in their first post about the RP, wrote a lot of mistakes. This second article is way more correct (at least, I didn't spot any errors).

I dragged that straw man out by the scruff of his neck and kicked his twiggy little ass all the way down to Fallacy Town where he belongs. I ended up with this  :

The press are simply parroting how the Foundation state prices though you could blame them for not actually doing their job - for instance by emailing the Foundation and asking "how much will it cost in total?".

You've got postage to add on as well, then add VAT, so $25 is likely to turn into £19, as most people will already have an SD card and PSU. I can see an R-Pi costing as much £21 delivered ...

Model A R-Pi : £15.80 ($25)

SD Card : they are like Tribbles overtaking my drawers.

Case : £0 - let's face it, it will fit in anything. Anything.

PSU : £0 - I've got micro USB wallwarts coming out my ears -  phones, cameras, eBook readers - I've thrown away five in the last year. And my mate says he's got loads too.

P&P : £2.00

=======

Total : £17.80+ 20% VAT = £21.36

Best case? Who knows. Straw man and gluten free? Well....  ;)

Whatever ( sod civility ). Obviously no one will be buying SD cards nor PSU's and I can't imagine why the R-Pi store will be selling them.

I was in the room when Eben gave the telephone interview, and the writer has done a really shockingly bad job with the transcription. Ho hum.

Here's a new one at Geek Times: Raspberry Pi foundation readies $25 PC for launch.

It's a very positive article with photos of Eben getting the award at 2011 ARM TechCon and beta board.

Awwww that's awful, what a shame! Well never mind just one of those things I guess. Plenty of media attention going around at the moment, so let's hope others do a better job.

"infantry" I like it - clearly transcribed from inventory without applying any thought whatsoever.
