Thanks Liz, although it is now today's RISC OS bash!

I had the R-Pi running while setting up the show, projecting from my stand onto the opposite wall of the hall for extra large Quake fun :-)

For a laugh we installed RPCemu, a RiscPC emulator, on it so we could be said to have had RISC OS running on the R-Pi already! However emulating ARM on ARM via a interpreter is not quick, and it staggered along at around 0.6 MIPS. The fact that was almost useable is a testament to how efficient the RISC OS code is. It was about the same speed moving windows around as LXDE is natively on the R-Pi :-D

Hope to see some R-Pi fans and returning RISC OS users later.

Bryan.

Thanks to Bryan, above - and here's a report from the show itself:

A brief mention of that award win:

This article is relevant not so much for the content (which is very interesting), but for the comments that follow.

We aren't concerned about that - it'll be obvious enough once we've launched, and it's a good pointer for us about which websites are doing research and will be on the list for working with later on (it's pretty obvious from that piece that they've just looked at the vid and perhaps read somebody else's article from May or thereabouts).

My favourite comment from that /. story is

Well, a cluster of raspberry pies is called a local parish council fundraiser.

I went along to the RISC OS London Show in Feltham yesterday, hoping to see RasPi, even though it's parents weren't with it, and found three of them - 6% of the population!
Taking care of them were several "uncles", from Cambridge Uni. and from Broadcom, who were able to demonstrate their awesome capabilities. There was a guy showing RISC OS running natively on a Pi - still not finished, he still had to things such as the USB drivers, and what was there he had finished at 5:00 that morning.
One thing that impressed me was the comittment of those involved, as well as their capabilty.
I didn't attend all the other presentations, but the one for the Pi was packed out - only two seats vacant. The age range was from > my age down to twenty-something. Sad that there were few ladies.

I don't know how successful Pi will be with youngins, but old fogeys definitely love it. I've tried to proselytize during my family week-end, about 50% of older nerds got engaged, the teens begged off to go facebooking as soon as was polite, scratch that, much before it was polite.
I remeber feeling so overwhelmed the first (and last) time I looked at x86 assembly, and Windows API... the Pi feels human !
It's great that Pi has got buzz, generating PR on its own. Will Eben be able to take a WE off ?

Of course. I spent about 30 minutes weighting each word, each phrase, to make sure the story was engaging, techie and geek enough to be submitted and people not get sick of it.

Well, not really. I spent 30 minutes or more writing the submission, but I wasn't expecting it to be accepted to front page. I'm happy and really surprised now! :)

Hey, they can't be sick of us with only two Slashdottages in the same week - I recall Beagleboard and Pandaboard to have much more stories, and they don't have such a noble cause behind them as the Pi has (although they are still ARM-powered boards, they are much expensive). Plus, the first appearance on /. was about the 2005 PC prototype, and not directly about the Pi.

You should also check the story that came after the Pi one on Slashdot. It's about OSS and Portuguese public schools - that is, the schools were I study. Let's have hope!

My Hebrew's not up to much either, but this is a hacking group who want to make a group purchase. Any Hebrew speakers here? I'd like to talk to them, but don't currently have the tools to do it (Google Translate is a wonderful thing, but I don't trust it as far as I can throw it).

The article basically gives a short explanation of what the Raspberry Pi is (project focus, what are the components etc.), and also tells about the award that you guys won at the ARm TechCom.

OSNews missed the rather large disclaimer at the beginning of my talk that I don't represent the views of the Foundation (which I've asked them to correct). Ah well, hope I didn't make too many blunders.

ETA: they've fixed the attribution now
