Whilst not about R-Pi, does indicate the shoddy business knowledge of some schools. Also how a cheap computer could help some.

The item about how UK Schools are being ripped off made me angry, too. The Raspi may well help solve some of these issues, because you can't mark it up without being obvious.
I also saw this on the BBC about the Ebay Auction: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/tech.....y-16424990

A case of failure to RTFC. (Read the Contract should anyone be wondering).

Sheesh... Middle class Guardian readers doing that?

A more positive post on the BBC News website

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/tech.....y-16424990

At first glance, its comprehensive and supportive.  On the minus side the Pi is back on the "Most Read" tab, at #4, and I think raspberrypi.org has been Beebed again!

Yup its currently number 10 most read on BBC, wish they would stop bigging this project up as more and more people will find out about it and reduce my chance of getting one!

Saying that, I wouldnt of found out about this if it wasnt for TheRegister so cant complain to much

Wonder how many of these will be selling for £50+ on ebay straight after launch, cant see them going for much more than as the whole point of it is how low the cost is, I would only get one off ebay for a max of £30 for the B model IF i couldnt get one direct from Raspberry

You should always be able to get one - just maybe not as soon as you might like! I really hope that when they appear on Ebay for inflated prices, people DON'T buy them.

Oooooo goody!!! Just waiting for all of this to make the bottom to fall out of the PC market. Then price points will have to be reset and manufacturers will have to start getting creative again to regain lost market share. Creativity requires milking creative young minds - and that could mean all sorts of new jobs for the future Pi Babies. =)

Hey, not your problem. Spread the word about the sorry state of affairs. Tell people to write their MP.  Seriously, what good is it going to do to train children to become creators in a society that penalizes creativity? I should hope that the ultimate goal is to return the UK to it's place as a technology leader. How can that happen if all of your best ideas must be exported to come to fruition? How can you ever get another tech boom rolling if taxes and tariff structures crush it?

Finally got that link to work. Absolutely disgusting. Just double-underscores the need for alternative technologies and the injection of a little tech-savvy into the education system.

Looks like R-Pi may have a window opened to it now ICT is dead and will be replaced by CompSci instead:

Just read Liz's latest article on production problems in the UK. I agreed it is absolutely bonkers the situation we have here in the UK where it costs needlessly to manufacture in this country! I will remember that next time I come into contact with MPs !

The e-petition is here already, thanks to Lynbarn:

Hopefully it will get included in some news reports too and boost it.

I don't suppose there are any figures on the amount the TAX adds is there?

"News" articles about the Raspberry Pi:

http://www.freesoftwaremagazin.....omputer_15

(About the Rhombus tech thingy... as well)

http://blogs.computerworlduk.c...../index.htm

(As it relates to ICT and Michael Gove not actually mentioning anything open source other than a wiki)

http://www.gamepolitics.com/20.....ring-china

Covers manufacturing issues (like the tax)

http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/.....and-china/

(As above)

Now all we have to do is make a big enough stink about the tax to get it reversed.

Anyone fancy calling the Sun? Or perhaps the Mirror and the Daily Mail?

PCpro article about the tax and manufacture issue, does anyone have an account over there to post a link to the petition, a lot of the comments seem very disgruntled by the UK government.
