The password for user "pi" is "suse".  Since I needed to know that, am I booting it wrong?

No, actually; Eben's just editing the download page now to reflect that.

I had other torrents running, after stopping them it is now ~250KiB/s+ down. I don't think I'll bother with the above

I also tried to run this file with qemu. I installed qemu et kvm-pxe on my ubuntu tried:

qemu -m 256 -sd debian6-17-02-2012.img

but it only tells me:

Booting from Hard Disk...

but nothing moves. I suppose I have to specify explicitly which architecture I'm trying to run. So if anyone knows which command we should use to run this image file with qemu, please tell us.

Hi Liz,

I'm still downloading so can't check - can I ask: does this come with the GPU blobs etc required to boot the machine or will they come in later downloads?

Cheers!

Hi tech_orph.

This image is ready to go on the Raspberry Pi. It can be written straight to an SD card. So yeah the blobs and fat32 partition are in there too!

Cheers,

Liam.

Cheers Liam.
The torrent has finished now (quicker than expect) and I see there's that partition at the front with the extra files.

Good work guys...

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but is it possible to have a smaller image for the bootloader only to put in a small SD card, and keep the main filesystem to an external USB hard disk drive? For most multimedia functions, I don't think that just the SD card will be adequate...

Thanks!

I was able to DL using torrent and I am seeding.

You guys are way ahead of me using Linux. I hope this helps other beginners.

I loaded Fedora 14 on a Vitrual machine. I put the unzipped img file in Documents, opened a terminal window typed cd Documents (enter) then typed su (enter) and put in my password (you won't see the password or any "*" or anything) and press enter again. Then type:

sudo dd if=debian6-17-02-2012.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M

Press enter.

I had to wait about 5 minutes (maybe longer) before the cursor came back. You will have to eject the SD card and reinsert it and it should look something like this:

I don't know yet if it will work. No way to test it.

Another HTTP Mirror:

(Datacenter located in Ashburn, VA)

RasPi Staff:
Apparently there are plenty of us looking to donate bandwidth, perhaps an official mirror distribution system is in order?

Hopped on the mirror bandwagon.. Because why not. I have unlimited bandwidth on this host. This server appears to be located in Brea, California, US

You can do it Yourself. From downloaded image write only first (boot) partition to SD. Create/copy second(root) and swap partitions to external USD hard disk drive. Change path in SD card file cmdline.txt, where root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 to Yours external disk root partition, in most cases root=/dev/sda1. Edit /etc/fstab in root partition changing swap partition path.

Not all files in boot partition are necessary, so SD card size can be 16MB.

Today I discovered that my Linode virtual server can burn through its 90GB monthly transfer cap in, err, about 90 minutes!  Oops.  It's not something I ever think about on my unlimited (but slow) home connection.

Thanks all! 1653 leechers & 1523 seeders!

Shows the amazing power of the community. Lets hope we can do the same when the fedora 14 image comes out in a couple of days!

We're all really impressed!

Liam.

Hi all,

You're all doing a great job with the mirrors. I'd just like to point out that you should add your mirror to the list on the wiki if you haven't already.

Cheers,

Liam
