memory usage

I was wondering about how much memory is used during a 1080p video playback. for low-end programming and small-footprint linux distributions, 128-256MB RAM is a good enough size. has video playback been measured via RAM? could I also run a few things while I watch 1080p anime or the likes?

Since I don't have a board yet I can't give you exacts but I do know that the xbmc people have shown that the GPU really shines on video play back.  A lot of it is all handled in hardware and doesn't eat much RAM, so you might very well be able to run a couple things while having a video playing in the background. (though it ultimately depends on how much of a memory hog the *other* processes are )

I think its in the Wiki somewhere, but I think  for 1080p playback about 70MB of the 128 or 256MB total needs to be allocated to the GPU.

I was thinking about maybe a torrent client and quassel-core or irssi.
