I'm planning to use the Pi for its intended purpose and take it into schools to teach kids about game development. However over time I also want to donate an unspecified number of Pi's to local schools.
As a small business, are there any tax implications/breaks for doing this? Would donating a Pi count as charitable giving and is this tax deductible?

Surely for such a detailed tax question as this, you would be better approaching the taxman or your accountant. Liz did say some time ago that there would be a box on the order page where a charitable donation could be made
Re: Tax implications of donating a Pi
The Foundation is registered as a charity with the UK tax authorities, so UK taxpayers can claim Gift aid on donations to the Foundation. To make use of this please indicate when you make a donation that you wnat it gift aided and supply your name and address

As an individual (UK tax payer), donating a 'Pi (well, in fact, you would be donating the cash to the Foundation to pay for a 'Pi for somebody else) should qualify for Gift Aid, but that doesn't apply to a business. You should probably really speak to your accountant/tax advisor on how your business might best be able to do this.

Re: Tax implications of donating a Pi
I do all my giving direct from my salary into a charity account - and can donate from there by electronic means from the account site, or by cheque.
For something like this I intend to give a charity cheque to the school and for them then to order the PIs directly.
Saves a lot of the hassle.
Charity accounts I've used:
Currently: Charities Trust http://www.charitiestrust.org/
In the past: Charities Aid Foundation: https://www.cafonline.org/
Both recommended.

Likewise, I have used CAF in the past (I used to work there), then Charity Giving, and now Charities Trust! There are several others. Agreed, this is an easy way to give, but keep an eye on the charges they levy - it does very from scheme to scheme, and not all employers support such schemes.
Note - most but not all schools are classed as charitable and qualify for Gift Aid.
Also, I don't think these schemes work for business users.
