Which desktop would you like to be the future desktop of Raspberry Pi OS?

Tue Jun 30, 2020 10:20 am

Thought I'd ask. I was interested.

So why have you missed of the actual official Raspberry Pi desktop from your list?

Definitely should add the current one as an explicit item. Beyond that I would argue that it does not matter. You have the standard desktop and you have Lite, where it is easy to add whatever desktop you want.

Makes sense to keep a standard desktop across all models of Pi and given that you want to choose a lighter one.

That more fits into the last option.
I see you have added an option. You should make it more explicit i.e. Raspberry Pi Desktop, and it should be at the top of the list, because it is clearly the most used one at the moment.

Although to be honest, I've closed one poll today, this one will probably be the second. They really are quite the waste of bandwidth.

I'm not suprised with the result so far...

XFCE, or "Meh. I don't care. A desktop is a desktop."

It just changed.

It's missing the most important answer: evilwm.

Another missing choice: Keep RasPiOS Lite and I'll take care of the desktop myself

And cannot be trusted as anything meaningful when an edit resets all poll counts. Previously I recall a 12:1 favouring of Raspberry Pi OS Desktop after I voted, but that's all gone now.

Yes, I think we are done here.

I wonder how I can disable polls on the forum.

you can delete them.....

I decided earlier this time not to....

Either way, people seems not to understand that changing the desktop of a Linux system is as easy as putting on a coat, deleting a desktop is more of an effort, but you can start with one that hasn't one Raspberry PI OS 32 Lite (AKA Raspbian Lite).
But note that the RPF has chosen a desktop system that was especially suited and modified it for an even beter fit.

Its just that you can't please all the people all the time, and people like to experiment with options.
