There will be a static version of that in the top left.

(Linux machines tend to be left switched on and running so there is no great interest in splash screens)

A animated gif may well work as a screen saver. I haven't tried. I'd be surprised if an animated gif worked at start-up. It just seems odd that someone would go to the bother of providing an environment to animate a gif during start-up. Probably quite easy, just odd.

I have no knowledge of this field.

If you don't get a response try a new post with a title like "how do I display an animated gif during boot". That is more likely to attract replies from the people who know.

Windows has animated spalsh screens to show something on the screen so you don't notice that it's actually wasting resources and taking ages to boot.

Oooooo look pretty pictures.

Under linux you have either a blank screen or the echo of all the commands it is doing. This is no simpler or more complicated per-say than Windows it just does not bother with on screen frippery while it get's the work done. Even under windows it has to load a screen driver to display that splashscreen thats making everything else wait.
Noob is not derogatory the noob is just the lower end of the noob--geek spectrum being a noob is just your first step towards being an uber-geek ;)

If you find a solution please post it in the wiki the forum dies too quick
