I'd stop digging if I were you. You made a fool of yourself, so best to stop.

Pi5? really? Good few years before that comes out. As for the person working on this, it wasn't his only job, he's done a huge amount of work in the last few months, and not just on bootcode. So people like you saying things like this is just plain rude. Anything more like this to say? Out you go. No chances.

Actually, no, I've just reread your post. It's so unpleasant you are going now. I WILL NOT TOLERATE this sort of abuse of our engineers.
I re-read that post several times and agree with his sentiment...so ban me also. Maybe he went to far saying Pi5 instead of 4b+, but still...
Done.
I miss the office, it's much more fun banning ****** when we can all have a good laugh about it.

Wow, I thought James was the only "Rottie Mod" on here. Clearly staying indoors for 9 weeks hones your moderation tolerances.

We are angry ALL THE TIME. But have learnt to control it. We just let it out at weekends. And other days of the week.

Has it been nine weeks? All I've done is go for a few dog walks. And drink beer. But not until after 5.30. That's PM before anyone asks.

Eight, I think. Nine for me, because they were advising self-quarantine if you'd been with anyone with a persistent cough at the time.

Something like that.

I did get a letter to say I should stay indoors for 12 weeks, but I checked with my GP and confirmed it had been sent in error.

Even so, I only leave the house to get food and medication. My wife hasn't left the house since this thing started. I want to visit my father and see if I can get his laptop working (he dropped it), but I daren't. He is old and has medical issues. He has carers who visit once a day to handle his basic needs.

This virus sucks :-(

I'm still shaking my head at everyone complaining about usb-boot missing.
I've also had a large drive sitting under my Pi4 since I got it, but it's been booting from sd card and mounting the HD since shortly after I assembled it.
While I am sure I will appreciate USB boot if I ever need to switch to a SSD, the boot delay to get to retropie is under 10 seconds already, and I'm not going to touch something that works well enough already.

Funny you should mention that. SD cardless USB boot on models prior to the 4B has actually been slightly slower. There's a timeout looking for an SD card before the firmware* starts to look for USB or network boot devices.

I've no idea if this will still be the case on a 4B or whether this makes a difference: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... _config.md

I'm counting from 16th March (last time I went to the gym) and 18th March (last time I went to the office in Farnborough).
This week will be my first full week getting paid every day (first five days in May). In April I invoiced 2 days. In March I invoiced 8.5 days.

I had one or two trips to the local Tesco Express, couple of goes at Morrisons and one at Tesco Winchester, but since my wife works at the Express (trying hard to keep the punters 2m apart) she brings the shopping home.

Yeah, just coming up 9 weeks, it's been tough, but we must all stay safe and get through this, of which I'm sure we will :) Looking forward to new update, so things are improving.

Back on the serious topic...I've updated my USB MSD boot test system to the the beta firmware. It rebooted just fine.

Current config is hybrid boot of the full version of Raspbian Buster with root on an HP S600 120GB SSD connected to a USB 3 port through an Eluteng USB to SATA adapter. If any more detail that what I've included below is needed, just ask.

Because the Pi 4 has a EEPROM chip, you can tune the timeouts to match your particular setup by inserting the relevant options into the bootloader EEPROM config. Also, there does not appear to be a 5 second timeout on SD card boot on Pi 4.

It is also possible to configure a Pi 3 to boot straight to USB MSD, but you either have to dedicate a load of GPIOs to the task of selecting boot modes, or permanently disable SD card boot.
