PI Camera V2 Infrared Version for Temperature measurement

Thu May 07, 2020 9:02 am

Hi,
The information from the website is that There are two versions of PI Camera V2- Visible light and Infrared Version(Thermal Imaging purpose?)
Can the Infrared version be used for Thermal Imaging like Temperature detection of object use case? PS: There is no specification mentioned in this.

No. Different parts of the infra-red range. The camera sees the just-barely-infra-red wavelengths. Thermal cameras are at very different wavelengths.

No, they are versions with and without IR filters, not thermal imaging and daylight.

Not having an IR filter means that you can use IR illumination night time security cameras, and a large number of other applications which require IR sensitivity.

Thank you.
So for the Thermal Imaging need some sensors like Lepton from Flir right?
And How about V2 NoIR Camera for the Iris recognition?

If you want to see body heat you will need a thermal camera like FLIR.
NOIR camera should be OK for Iris imaging.
NOIR can see hotter objects. For example a soldering iron or an electric cooker hob at >~300° C should show as glowing in a dark room.

You can use IR bandpass filter to block visible light and detect NIR in daylight conditions.

NOIR camera can see IR in sunlight, so you can get interesting photos of bright vegetation and dark skies,

Thanks.
Any references for Iris imaging using RPI Camera?

No, just google : https://pypi.org/project/G6-iris-recognition/

It's probably best to start a new topic if you want to discuss Iris scanning..
