Re: What You Need To Start Immediately? (What is needed/comes in box)

I just ordered one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120840184047

SUMVISION SV-K053 WIRELESS KEYBOARD with BUILT-IN TOUCH PAD

Not bad for £20. Since the Pi will be in a lounge plugged into a 42" LCD it seemed right to go wireless with a device you can easily perch on your lap. A separate mouse would be a pain under those circumstances.

For power I propose to use a Kindle USB charger as I have a spare, and I also have a very cheap (£1.99) HDMI cable. I'm not yet sure about the SD card, I have a few lying around but most are too small. All advice taken on that one!

I think the problem is how to kit up without it costing a fortune. I mean, in the spirit of the R-Pi's low price, I am trying to keep everything else low price too (subject to certain extravagances like the keyboard for the reason stated).

I was gonna get the whole shooting match into a keyboard and wire out from there, but I am thinking about going wireless myself.  I still want to do the steam punk thing though, just considering how much easier it would be to just have to do the keyboard!  I would like a USB socket in the keyboard still though, is there a wireless keyboard that has one?

well you don't need the composite video or rca audio cables if you use hdmi or vise versa

I only added HDMI for other readers the, original poster said he did not have HDMI

So he does need the composite cable and 3.5 adapter cables.

I commented all that might be needed as to cover all the bases and still left out the alcohol part darn it.

I also did not add SSD, HDD, USB3.0, or $1000.00 monitors as he only requested what was needed to get started.

I am going to be using HDMI myself as I have plenty of viewing devices that support HDMI or DVI-D(and have a HDMI to DVI-D cable for my laptop for my 42" TV), but will also be experimenting with composite(I also have the 3.5 to RCA cord from when I was traveling for the Army for my old laptop), I have all the cables needed just lying around except the micro usb which my son had extras from his android phones and willing gave me one, I also purchased one Micro usb cable and gave it to Lobo as he did not have one either.

So I am ready just need a Raspi to go with it all.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.

Can anyone recommend a USB-hub that is able to power the pi and also has an SD-card reader?
My computer has none and as such buying a combined product would probably be cheaper.

If I wait for official SD-cards with the image already on them, could I use the pi with no SD-card reader whatsoever? Or is it impossible to replace the OS on the SD or parts of it while the pi is booted?

If you look around the house, you may be surprised that you already have an SD card reader. Your camera or camcorder or printer may be able to accept an SD card and expose it over USB to your computer.

You can (in theory) rewrite the OS while the RPi is using it. It's a bit like self-surgery, just don't touch anything vital or you may ...........

For analog audio you can buy a 3.5mm plug to RCA audio adaptor:

Stop quoting the price of items in Poundland. It ruins the surprise.
