VGA Monitor issues

Sun Mar 29, 2020 1:55 pm

I have a DELL 4:3 VGA Monitor and when I connect it to my Raspberry Pi b which is running Raspbian some programs are too big on the screen. I have tried

Code: Select all

sudo raspi-config
I have tried playing with the monitor settings and I have even tried readjusting the windows.

Can someone please help me?

OOC, this DELL 15" model perhaps: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... i2Vga.html ?
What happens if you select "Set Defaults" for medium or small screens in Menu --> Preferences --> Appearance Settings --> Defaults(tab)?
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

The Raspberry Pi has no VGA Output so what are you using as an adaptor ??

The very first thing you should do is to check the monitor very carefully to see if it has a DVI connector. If it does, get an HDMI to DVI cable, or--if you're using a Pi4B--an HDMI to DVI adapter to go with the RPF microHDMI to HDMI cable.

If it *doesn't* have a DVI connector, spend $20 and get a used monitor that does and then proceed as above. You will be much happier in the end.

(I say this as someone who is using a very good HDMI to VGA adapter, but it's on the output side of an HDMI/USB KVM switch to feed a port on a VGA/PS2 KVM switch. For all other Pi setups, I use monitors that have DVI connectors, ranging from 17" 1280x1024 to 24" 1920x1200, and all of them work just fine, thank you.)
