With all the requests for features amd upgrades on future versions, the onw rhing I"d most like is to hear from the foundation about what they intend or hoe to do. What are the plans for the future? I"ve checked the FAQ and tried searching, but came up empty.

AFAIK there are no official plans per se, they're too busy getting the first one out! And because both the product and the business model are very unusual I think future plans will be dependent on how the next few months pan out.

There is an education release planned for Summer that will have a case and learning materials such as a user guide etc.

Why not ask for the release schedule of the next design?

And while you're at it, could you add Sony What the CPU load will by while playing 4k2k video on the ps4 and at which date you will be able to buy it at your local store together with call of duty 6?

Stephen Elop, the (ex-MS) head of Nokia said a year ago, that Symbian was dead, and Nokia would transition to Windows phone. They didn't have a windows phone ready. The bottom fell out of Symbian smartphone phone sales (even though they are pretty good), because everyone thought it was a dead end, but they didn't have a Windows phone to sell in their place for a year. Nokia are now in the s**t.

Moral of this story 1. Don't announce stuff that makes the bottom drop out of your current market

Moral of this story 2. Don't make an idiot ex-MSer head of your company.

My previous post makes it look like there is something being planned, but actually I should say that I don't know the plans of the Foundation in this area. It was just a comment why you don't announce stuff when you shouldn't.

The bottom had fallen out of Nokia before the M$ deal.. I'd wager that the M$ deal was essential to Nokias survival.

We are working very hard on the next version. We have looked at all the requests for changes and have handed it over to the marketing and sales department. Their proposal for the next version will have HDMI, VGA, display port, LVDS as well as DSI and CCP2. It will come with two SATA,  two USB3, two USB2, four PCIe ports a Gigabit Ethernet port. It will have standard 4G of memory which you can expand to max 64G. To run the various operating system it will have 2x 1GHz ARMV7 core and an ARMV6 to run existing raspberry-Pi software. It will also have a 2.7GHz Intel x86 core so you can run other code. Marketing & sales told the engineers designing the system to make sure the power is max 25% more and the price max 15% more then the current one.

Post edit: Yes this is tongue-in-check post

Please! Keep it simple. That may be neat addition into raspberry line but your best selling points are going to be price and simplicity. Keep the amount of interfaces low, and remaining interfaces versatile. Concentrate on performance and memory.

50$ device might be good, but I think a next sensible step would be 100$ if you want to extend the range. It'd be neat to contain  wireless, but current WiFi is quite horrible and expensive. In few years you might be a mainstream vendor though, so you could consider your own interfaces.

Notwithstanding that Gert's post was a little tongue in cheek, you can already get $100 devices. The purpose of the Raspi is cheap cheap programming devices. $100 doesn't hit the stop. Even $50 is too much.

Folks - Gert's post was A JOKE.

As we've said many times before, the Model C will be just like the B, only it will have wheels and come bundled with a sandwich. You get to choose between cheese and pickle, beef and horseradish and prawn cocktail.

What's this talk about extra features? surely the foundation should be looking to their unique selling point - cheapness!

One of the often-mentioned problems with both model A and model B is that they have HDMI instead of VGA, and another is the wired networking instead of wifi.

My solution would be to remove both. That would allow the user more scope to add what they wanted. And make it cheaper!

Also memory. Don't put any on.

Arm v6? Don't put on the SoC, let the buyer choose.

Same goes for all the passive components. And the active ones!

Don't etch the boards - you'll be limiting the purchaser if you do!

In fact why make it of fibre-glass - why not paper?

So! Model c will be the size of a postage stamp, look like a postage stamp, and cost very little more than a postage stamp!

I think I'm getting cabin fever

@ Gerts Post.

I know it was a joke, but if people really want all this extra stuff, just go and buy one of the Zotac MiniItx boards for about four times the price...
