5V/3A Power Bank for RPi4

Wed Feb 26, 2020 3:03 pm

Looking for a stable power bank to power my Pi4. This one fits the recommended specs:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SQ ... UTF8&psc=1

Is there anything else I should consider?

Perhaps consider that the device in question is being advertised as suitable for charging a 'phone. It doesn't claim to provide a stable 5 volt supply at full current load as needed by an RPi 4 board.

Not to say that it definitely won't work. But it might not....

Same answer. I see lots of mention of 'charges' and 'charging' - but no guarantee of a stable regulated 5 volt supply under all load conditions.

Maybe you should be asking the vendors this question?

Can the power bank be charged and run at the same time? Many can't if that is important to you......

Is battery power interrupted when the charger is connected or disconnected? As has been discussed in many threads here, many power banks will momentarily interrupt output when charger is inserted or pulled causing the RPi to reboot.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

One of my test with a power bank and RPi

the power to the connected device is cut off while being charged at the same time
confirming klrick's comment above (at least for this PowerBank)

doing the same "powering while being charged" test on another power bank, this time on an Anker 79ANM3-WA (13000mAH)
its powering the device while being charged, so this seems OK..

bottom line.... test.... test.... and more test.... until satisfied....
