Make External HDD on Pi Visible in macOS Finder

Mon Feb 24, 2020 8:21 am

Beginner Rasberry-er here.

I've been trying to set up my external HDD so I can see it as a folder on macOS High Sierra.

So far I have installed netatalk and got the main pi user home directory visible in Finder. I've also mounted the HDD to a folder (hdd) on the Pi: https://puu.sh/FdKH5/49a432c219.png

But getting the HDD to show up in Finder is proving tricky.

Here's my netatalk config:

Code: Select all

  basedir regex = /home
  path = /hdd
Here's the output from fdisk showing the HDD:

Code: Select all

Disk /dev/sdb: 465.8 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: 621BB75A-632E-4A98-8745-7103BCFF1D67

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sdb1 2048 976773134 976771087 465.8G Linux filesystem
And my fstab has this as the last line:

Code: Select all

/dev/sdb /hdd ext4 nofail,uid=pi,gid=pi 0 0
Any idea where I'm going wrong? Is there a cleaner way to do this?

Your fstab entry doesn't match the way your drive is formatted: your data is in /dev/sdb1, not in /dev/sdb
I would try this (assuming your mount options are ok)

Code: Select all

/dev/sdb1 /hdd ext4 defaults,nofail,uid=pi,gid=pi 0 0
